Paramount Network Ink Master: Turf War Prepare for a Turf War. Nathaniel Howe Studios and Paramount Network linked up to create the new on-air campaign for Ink Master’s 13th season. This season, the show’s contestants are reppin’ their regions around the United States — east, west, south and midwest — as they compete to win the title of Ink Master.
PROCESS: Directing the Shoot Nathaniel Howe, Executive Create Director of NHS, and Steve Priola traveled to New York City to co-direct the promo shoot, where Ink Master contestants & also judges Chris Núñez, Oliver Peck and host Dave Navarro were armed with neon props, spray paint, buckets and brushes to create irreverent designs on plexiglass.
PROCESS: Finding the Light We knew light was to be a driving force behind these promos, so we covered a range unique setups. From solid color fills to represent an artist region, to moments of finding illumination motivated by something provocative. We pushed the concept of neon even further by incorporating florescent inks to mimic the vibrance of neon illumination.
PROCESS: One Nation Under neon Paramount Network worked with NHS to design a supersized neon map of the USA, highlighting each region in the competition and giving audiences something visually stunning to rally around.
PROCESS: Bringing it all together In post, NHS worked with Editor Michael Kardis to develop the regional tensions, then NHS’ team of animators worked their magic layering in more complex neon graphics. Rounding out with tune-in and endpages, NHS’ team completed all of the visual post work - design, animation, editorial, color correction, and also digital specs - then delivered to Paramount Network for the final music & sound mix.
