HLN Death Row Stories HLN's popular docu-series Death Row Stories has returned for its fourth season. In anticipation of the big launch, Nathaniel Howe Studios partnered with The Amy Palmer Group and HLN to conceptualize a new promo campaign for on-air, digital and print. Our team of designers took a creative dive into the symbolism of crime and punishment through several interpretations ranging from abstract 3D, to true crime themes of files and evidence. These spots featured original music by Syn and sound design and mix by Soundbyte.

PROCESS: Scultping a compelling Narrative The stories featured in this series are often highly complex, starting from the scene of a crime and ending at an execution chamber. A web of details connect the beginning to end and we wanted to create a visual language that captured the these complexities. To do so, we 3D modeled an intricate sculpture made from key story elements. As the viewer explores the sculpture, depictions of crime, evidence, trials, and incarceration are seen. As a finally payoff we reveal the entire sculpture to be held together by a blind Lady Justice.
PROCESS: Designing the unsettling We believe in the design process. That means dedicating time to explore curiosities, and playing freely in design. It also sometimes means unexpected turns along the way that ultimately leads us to the heart of every creative challenge. No matter a project scope, our process is always the same, and it always starts with design.
